Nubian Social Aid and Pleasure Club announces royalty for 2020 Grand Ball

Nubian Social Aid and Pleasure Club announces its 2020 Royalty. They will celebrate the Mardi Gras season with its Ninth Annual Tableau Ball on Saturday, January 25th at the Natchez Convention Center.

Queen Carla DeShaun Onwukwe
Carla is the daughter of the late Donald Jenkins and Mary Lou Jenkins of Plaquemine, Louisiana. She has three daughters, Danni, Jordyn and Reagan and four sons, Keith, Kyle, Kent and Kristian.
She is currently employed with East Baton Rouge Parish School system, where she works as an English IV teacher and English department chairperson. She received both her bachelors and masters degrees from The Southern University and is a proud alumni of the Jaguar Nation.
Carla is a member of the National Association of Educators and Louisiana Association of Educators. She enjoys volunteering and exposing students to volunteer opportunities, especially at the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Carla is also passionate about increasing college access for minority students. Her hobbies include reading, traveling, cooking and shopping.
Her favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
King Kenneth Woods, Jr.
Ken is the son of Kenneth Sr. and Patti Ann Woods of Natchez. He has four sons, Keith, Kyle, Kent and Kristian and three daughters, Danni, Jordyn and Reagan.
Kenneth received his associates degree in drafting and design from ITT Technical School. He is currently employed as a commercial truck driver with United Petroleum Transport, Inc.
He enjoys spending time with family, performing random acts of kindness, traveling, shopping and cheering on his favorite team, the Houston Rockets. In his spare time, he enjoys live music performances, comedy shows, and watching movies.
His favorite scripture is the 23rd Psalm, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Chieftess Janelle Jordan Graham
Janelle, resides in Byram. She is the daughter of Alexine Jordan and George and Barbara Jordan. She is the proud mother of three; a daughter, Kia, and two sons, Kobe and Kaleb. Ms. Graham is a member of Greater Pearlie Grove MB Church in Jackson, where she serves in the youth ministry, Jesus Using Sisters Women’s Ministry and sings in the mass choir. Ms. Graham is currently employed at her alma mater, “THEE” Jackson State University as the Stadium Manager of Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium where she has served in many capacities for the last 23 1/2 years. Ms. Graham enjoys in her spare time traveling, enjoying the fine arts, spending time with her family and friends.
Ms. Graham’s favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:11, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”
She is determined to live her life to the fullest, her motto on living your best life — “If you can’t find a way, make a way, because with God, All things are possible!”
Maid Ziah Zhane Gaylor Hawkins
Ziah is the daughter of Danielle Gaylor and Eddie Hawkins and the granddaughter of Adell Gaylor, Paula Gaylor and Bettye Lee.
She is a senior dual enrollment student at Natchez Early College at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, where she is an honor roll student and ranked in the top of her class. Ziah is a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, Co-Lin Student Government Association and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. In her community she attends St. Paul A.M.E. Church and serves as president of her local Young People’s Division. She is a member of the choir.
After graduation, Ziah plans to attend Xavier University in New Orleans and major in pharmacy. Her goal is to one day become a pharmaceutical research scientist.
Her hobbies include singing, dancing, learning new hairstyles, spending time with friends and family and bringing laughter to others.
Maid Alexes Kiera Denson
Alexes is the daughter of Andrea January and Delvon Denson, and the granddaughter of Andrew January, Margaret January, Donna Denson and Rodney Flowers.
She is an eleventh grade student at Slidell High School, Slidell, Louisiana. Alexes plans to attend Southeastern University, Hammond, Louisiana, to major in liberal and visual arts.
Alexes enjoys the arts, foreign culture, history, reading, strategy games and other stimulating past times. Favorite quote from former President Barack Obama, “If you work hard and meet your responsibilities, you can get ahead, no matter where you come from, what you look like, or who you love.”
Maid Joleah Leavy
Joleah is the daughter of Reverend Joe Leavy, Jr. and Stephanie Leavy. She is also the granddaughter of Betty Brown, the late George Brown, the late Joe Leavy, Sr. and Bessie Mae Leavy.
She is a junior at South Pike High School where she is a member of the Color Guard, National Beta Club, Family Career and Community Leaders of America, Teens Against Chemical Abuse, South Pike choir, Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church and Sweet Home Praise Team.
Joleah plans to attend Clark University, Atlanta GA to major in Pre-Med.
Maid Madison Skinner
Madison is the daughter of Michael and Veronica Kelly. She is a senior at Penn Foster High School, and a member of Eternal Hope Evangelistic Pentecostal Church. Upon graduating from high school, she plans to attend Jackson State University and major in Biology. Her career goal is to become an anesthesiologist.
She enjoys dancing, singing and studying.
Her favorite quote is from Eleanor Roosevelt who said, “You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”
