Prep Basketball Roundup: Delta Charter School earns third district win

FERRIDAY — Kavarius Whitehead, Ny’kel Brooks, and Trace Miller each scored over 20 points for Delta Charter School Tuesday night as the Storm held on for an 80-73 win over the Ouachita Christian School Eagles in an LHSAA District 2-1A game.
Delta Charter led Ouachita Christian 19-17 after one quarter of play and 21-16 at halftime before the Eagles cut the lead to two points, 55-53, by the end of the third quarter. In that quarter, they outscored the Storm 20-15.
However, the Storm would respond in a big way on offense as it outscored the Eagles 25-20 to pull out the win. Whitehead finished with 28 points while Brooks had 24 points and Miller put up 23 points for Delta Charter (5-16, 3-8).
The Storm next plays at nearby district rival Sicily Island High School Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Monterey boys 77, Harrisonburg 27 (Tuesday)
HARRISONBURG, La. — Tyson Beard led Monterey High School with a game-high 26 points as the Wolves cruised to a 77-27 win over the Harrisonburg High School Bulldogs Tuesday night.
Beard was not the only player for Monterey (22-5) to score in double figures. Ethan Clark added 12 points and Trey Boyd contributed with 11 points.
The Wolves return to LHSAA District 6-B play on Friday when they host Glenmora High School.
Oak Forest Academy boys 55, ACCS 34 (Tuesday)
AMITE, La. — Adams County Christian School’s varsity boys’ basketball team tried its best to stay with Oak Forest Academy, but a rough fourth quarter ended any thoughts of an upset as the Yellow Jackets pulled way for a 55-34 win over the Rebels Tuesday night in ACCS’s District 4-4A finale.
Oak Forest Academy jumped out to a 16-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and then took a 29-18 lead into halftime. ACCS tried to get back in the game after outscoring the Yellow Jackets 13-9 in the third quarter to make it a 38-31 game in favor of the home team.
Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets had their way with the Rebels on both ends of the court in the fourth quarter. Oak Forest put up 17 points while holding ACCS to just three points.
Wes Stockstill led ACCS (12-9, 4-4) with nine points and Vic Lassiter had eight points.
Rayville boys 103, Ferriday 56 (Tuesday)
RAYVILLE, La. — The Rayville High School Hornets cruised to a 103-56 win over the Ferriday High School Trojans to stay undefeated in LHSAA District 2-2A.
Rayville, the No. 2 team in the latest Class 2A power ratings, improved to 19-6 overall and 11-0 in district. Ferriday fell to 7-12 overall and 5-6 in district play. The Trojans host Mangham High School Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Vidalia girls 46, Beekman Charter School 39 (Tuesday)
BASTROP, La. — The Vidalia High School Lady Vikings needed a big fourth quarter to rally for a 45-39 win over the Beekman Charter School Lady Tigers Tuesday night in an LHSAA District 2-2A game.
Vidalia went into the fourth quarter trailing a bad Beekman Charter team 28-25 before the Lady Vikings outscored the Lady Tigers 20-11 to escape with the win.
The Lady Vikings (9-11, 4-6) host district foe Delhi Charter School for Sweetheart Night Friday at 6 p.m.
Monterey girls 38, Harrisonburg 30 (Tuesday)
HARRISONBURG, La. — The Monterey High School Lady Wolves defeated the Harrisonburg High School Lady Bulldogs 38-30 Tuesday night.
Monterey (21-4, 1-2) hosts LHSAA District 6-B opponent Glenmora High School Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Oak Forest Academy girls 63, ACCS 28 (Tuesday)
AMITE, La. — With starter Drue Boyd unable to play, the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels struggled to get into an offensive rhythm and lost to the Oak Forest Academy Lady Yellow Jackets 63-28 Tuesday night in an MAIS District 4-4A game.
Oak Forest jumped out to a 19-4 lead by the end of the first quarter and increased its led to 35-9 at halftime.
Halle Peterman led ACCS (2-19, 1-7) with 14 points. The Lady Rebels play at Parklane Academy in their regular-season finale today at 6 p.m.
Rayville girls 67, Ferriday 38 (Tuesday)
RAYVILLE, La. — Any chances of the Ferriday High School Lady Trojans running the table in LHSAA District 2-2A came to an end Tuesday night as the Rayville High School Lady Hornets came with a surprisingly easy 67-38 win.
Rayville (19-4, 10-1) also avenged a 15-point loss at Ferriday back on Jan. 14.
The Lady Trojans (19-4, 10-1) hosts Mangham High School Friday at 6 p.m.
Ouachita Christian School girls 65, Delta Charter School 29 (Tuesday)
FERRIDAY — Avery Hopkins scored 16 points and Emery Wirtz had 15 points as the Ouachita Christian School Lady Eagles rolled to a 65-29 win over the Delta Charter School Lady Storm Tuesday night in LHSAA District 2-1A action.
Ouachita Christian led Delta Charter 14-6 after one quarter of play and 29-15 at halftime. The Eagles put the game away with a 20-8 advantage in the third quarter for a commanding 49-20 lead.
Cloi Cummings led Delta Charter (7-17, 2-9) with 12 points and Shyvlie Blaney chipped in with 11 points. The Lady Storm plays at Sicily Island High School Friday at 6 p.m.
