Natchez– Mrs. Bobbie Nell Cotten Alexander, 89, originally of Natchez, MS, and most recently a resident of Chickamauga, GA., passed away Feb. 5, 2020 at 10 p.m. surrounded by her family. She was born in Bude, Mississippi on Jan. 9, 1931 to the late Julius C. and Carleen Cotten. She graduated from Natchez High School and married the love of her life, John Alexander on September 3, 1949. She was a valued employee of the late, William F. Riley, Attorney at Law and later of the Zuccaro, Riley, Wood, Pintard and Brown Law Firm. Mrs. Alexander was a faithful member and pianist of the West Side Baptist Church in Natchez, Mississippi for 40 years. She was also church secretary and Sunday School Teacher as well as holding other positions in the church and the Marantha Baptist Mission. Since 1998, she’s been a faithful member and assistant organist of Victory Baptist Church in Rossville, GA.
After more than four years of bravely fighting the battle against Multiple Myeloma, Mrs. Alexander succumbed and slipped peacefully into the arms of her Lord and joined her husband who preceded her in death 38 years ago.
Mrs. Alexander is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Johnnie Lynn Jones and husband, Phillip and Shirley Gill and husband, William all of Chickamauga, GA; grandchildren, Heather Gill Akers and husband, Jeremiah, Bryan Jones and wife, Connie, J.P. Gill and Suzanne Jones; seven great grandchildren whom she dearly loved, Drake Evans, Fowlyn Akers, Max Scheer, Chelsea Scheer, Zeke, Skylar and Given Jones; brother & sister-in-law, Julius C. Cotton, Jr. and wife, Carole; sister, Margie Fuqua of Natchez; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family & friends.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 4 p.m., today in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with William Gill and Bro. Earnest Groce officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Alexander’s family will also receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday Feb. 9, 2020 at Laird Funeral Home, followed by a brief graveside service at Natchez City Cemetery.
J.P. Gill, Bryan Jones, Drake Evans, Zeke Jones, Given Jones and Jimmy Fuqua will serve as pallbearers.
