SPECIAL TO THE DEMOCRAT
VIDALIA — Robert Gardner Jr. recently announced his candidacy for reelection to Vidalia’s District 2 alderman seat.
“It has been an utter pleasure to serve as your alderman for the past four years,” Gardner said in making the announcement. “I am honored to be a public servant to the wonderful citizens of District 2 in Vidalia. Thank you for allowing me to be your voice. I have heard your grievances, your suggestions, your dreams, and your aspirations. Please know that your words have not fallen upon deaf ears. I hear every complaint, and I empathize.
Gardner said district 2 is made up of diverse people.
“We are all family,” Gardner said. “Like family, we may have disagreements, we may have strife, but we will always love and care for one another. The love that I have for my district, my city, my state and my country, gives me the drive to be the best public servant I can possibly be. Please allow me to continue to be your advocate and a part of your family.”
Gardner said that as alderman he has supported initiatives such as increasing employee pay, new entrepreneurship endeavors for local business owners, and the mass rehabilitation of blighted properties in the area.
“I have personally dedicated my time and efforts into public works and infrastructure projects including the water pumping station,” Gardner said. “I fought for our city’s most vulnerable residents to attain grants and subsidies that will facilitate economic stability in our community. Although all these things have significantly impacted our community, please know that we still have more work to do. The job will never be done until poverty and injustice is eradicated from Vidalia.”
Gardner said he is blessed to be a part of the community.
“My campaign will focus on service and not politics,” Gardner said. “I will not spew the promises that have become customary in political arenas. I will not allow the politics to interfere with civic duty. I will fight to continue to be the voice of the people in District 2. I will serve those that cannot help themselves. I will stand with any ally that will give my constituents opportunities to thrive and be successful. I will stand against any foe that will pose a threat to the safety or way of life of my constituents. I will make the tough calls and hard decisions. I will not be afraid to rock the boat. I promise to maintain transparency and an open-door policy with you all.”
Gardner closed with an appeal to voters.
“On April 4th, remember what Robert Gardner Jr. has done and what he will do,” Gardner said. “It is my hope that my name on that ballot will resonate with every heart in District 2. If I have not earned your confidence, I ask that you allow me the opportunity to share my vision with you. I ask that you keep an open mind and open heart. For those that believe in my vision, once again thank you for being a friend of Robert Gardner Jr. I will continue to make District 2 proud. Let’s continue to move Vidalia forward!”
