NATCHEZ — As a safety precaution against further spread of COVID-19, the Natchez Adams School District is canceling a trip to the State Beta Club Convention in Biloxi that had been planned for Tuesday, March 17.

As of Wednesday afternoon, data from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi.

However, District Superintendent Fred Butcher said the district is canceling the trip to Biloxi as a precaution. Approximately 300 Beta Club members throughout the district were scheduled to depart from Natchez on Tuesday, Butcher said.

“We will be making every effort to refund parents,” Butcher said, adding the refund could take up to two weeks to be processed.

“We’re currently making an effort to contact all administrators, parents students and sponsors to notify them of the cancelation. … We are asking parents to be understanding of this decision because we feel it is in the best interest of all of our students and everyone involved.”
