NATCHEZ — Graveside Services for Mildred Allain Newsome, who died peacefully on March 13, 2020, in Houston, Texas, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Natchez City Cemetery with Father Mark Shoffner officiating. Services will be under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Newsome was born April 12, 1926, in Natchez, to parents Henry G. Allain and Leona Smith Allain.

Mildred was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Joseph Roy Newsome Sr., brothers   William Allain, Henry Allain, and sisters Mary Allain Peale and Margaret Gibbs

She is survived by her three loving children. Joseph Roy Newsome Jr, (wife Harriet), Karen Newsome Cousins (husband Doug), Linda Newsome Ellis (husband Jim); grandchildren Casey Cousins and wife Marcela, Danielle Cousins, Katrina Cousins. Jake Ellis, Dustin Ellis, Laura Newsome Sensi (husband Andrew) and Joseph Roy Newsome, III; her nieces Charlene Gibbs Combest (Tommy) Lindy Allain Farish (Andre) and Teri Newsome; nephew Bill Peale (Evelyn)

Mildred and Roy started out their married lives in Natchez, MS.  Roy was an engineer with Chevron and that took them to Venice La, then Lafayette, overseas to Scotland for a few years and back to New Orleans where they retired.

Mildred was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.   She devoted her life to her family as a wonderful homemaker, Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and, church volunteer.  She loved her dear friends; playing golf, reading and bridge during her years in Lafayette, La and New Orleans La She moved to Houston after her husband died in 2009. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart and they loved her deeply.
