NATCHEZ — Adams County law enforcement officials advised of a new scam in which people pretending to be American Red Cross workers offer to clean peoples’ houses for a fee and guarantee to rid the house of the coronavirus.

Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said Jefferson County Sheriff James Bailey contacted him Thursday evening about the scam and believed the suspected posers may have entered Adams County.

Patten said investigators informed said there had been calls to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office regarding the scam but the callers did not file a report.

“They call but no one has actually filed a report yet,” Patten said. “They said people were going around saying they are with Red Cross or other types of services and they try to charge people a fee. … We’re asking people to contact us if this happens so that we can find out who these people are and put a stop to it.”

Patten said those who come in contact with the scammers should call 911.
