Adams County tops 100 cases in latest state COVID-19 report

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 259 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday and eight new deaths.

Mississippi now has a total of 5,153 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 201 COVID-19 deaths.

Adams County reported five new cases, bringing the county’s total to 101, with seven total deaths and 14 cases in long-term health care facilities.

Merit Health Natchez on Wednesday reported the hospital was caring for 13 COVID-19 positive patients who are receiving care in a unit separate from other patients. Merit Health also reported that six COVID-19 patients had been discharged from the hospital.

“Our inventory of ventilators is sufficient to support the medical needs of the patients in our care at this time,” hospital officials said.

Louisiana

On Thursday, the Louisiana Department of Health reported a total of 25,739 confirmed cases and 1,540 deaths.

The Concordia Parish Office Homeland Security and Office Emergency Preparedness a reported the parish’s fourth COVID-19 death Wednesday evening.

The victim, a 78-year-old black female, tested positive for COVID-19 at Riverland Medical Center on April 6 and died early Tuesday morning at Glenwood Regional in West Monroe.

No further information is available at this time on the death.

Also on Wednesday, the OHSEP reported three new COVID-19 cases in Concordia Parish, one in a 47-year-old black male who tested positive Wednesday at SouthStar Urgent Care and is on a 14-day quarantine at home; another in a 55-year-old Caucasian male who tested positive Wednesday at SouthStar Urgent Care And is on a 14-day quarantine at his home; and the third case in a 57-year-old black male, who tested positive Wednesday at SouthStar Urgent Care and is on 14-day quarantine at his home.

Of Concordia Parish’s 88 total confirmed COVID-19 cases, 27 were females, 17 males, two Hispanics, six Cuacasians and 36 blacks.
