NATCHEZ — Hazel Deas Swain Browne Butler was born on Nov. 14, 1926, in Jennings, FL and passed away at age 93 on May 23, 2020, in Lubbock, Texas.
She is remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. While in Natchez she loved buying older homes and remodeling them and loved playing bridge with her friends. She, also, loved to cook, work in her flower beds, entertain family and friends at holidays and make everyone feel special with elegant touches of holiday dishes, crystal and china. Although over the past years she lived in West Texas, she was always a Southern Lady at heart and referred to Natchez as home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Bryant Deas and Carrie Cunningham Deas of Jennings, FL, one brother and four sisters.
Survivors include two sister; Betty Deas Scriver and husband, Chuck, of Minneapolis, MN and Ruby Deas Malone of Albany, GA; one brother, Albert Walton ‘Son’ Deas and wife, Mittie, of Jennings, FL; two sons, John ‘Jack’ Swain, Jr. and wife, Frances, of Milton, GA, Richard ‘Ric’ Swain of Prairieville, LA; two daughters, Sherrie Swain Power and husband, John, and Susan Swain Landoll, both of Lubbock, TX, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
A private graveside ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2020, at Natchez Cemetery where she will be laid to rest in the family plot under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that you send memorial donations to St. Jude Hospital or St. Mary Basilica Natchez.
