Mississippi on Thursday reports more COVID-19 cases, deaths

The Mississippi State Department of Health on Thursday reported 238 new COVID-19 cases and 12 new COVID-19 deaths.

Adams County now has 202 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 16 deaths due to COVID-19, with 45 of Adams County’s COVID-19 cases and eight deaths from long term care facilities. Forty of Adams County’s long term-care facility cases and eight of the deaths were reported in the Adams County Nursing Home.

The only other Adams County long-term care facility to report cases is Glenburney Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, which has four COVID-19 cases in employees, five in patients and no deaths.

As of Sunday, May 31, Adams County Emergency Agency reported that Adams County had 20 active cases countywide, 179 total expired cases countywide, 15 total deaths countywide and 164 total recovered cases countywide.

Statewide 126 long-term care facilities have active outbreaks.

The state now has 16,560 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 794 deaths.

On Tuesday, Adams County Coroner James Lee said he had an 82-year-female from a local nursing die of COVID -19 after being transported to Merit Health Natchez on Tuesday morning. She was a resident of Adams County, so Adams County now has 16 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Lee also reported two COVID-19 deaths on Thursday. One of those was an 87-year-old nursing home resident in Adams County and the other a 43-year-old male from Fayette, who was pronounced dead Thursday afternoon at Merit Health Natchez.

“This pandemic is still alive, and we still have infected cases in our city and surrounding towns,” Lee said. “Please, please, everyone don’t get relaxed. Protect yourself and your families.”

Also on Tuesday, the Concordia Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness reported it had received new COVID-19 confirmed cases for Concordia Parish between May 29 to June 2, bringing the parish’s total to 95 confirmed COVID-19 cases and six deaths.

The state of Louisiana now has 41,562 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 2,772 COVID-19 deaths reported.

Totals of all reported cases since March 11.
