NATCHEZ — Two Adams County Sheriff’s vehicles were involved in a traffic accident at approximately 7:15 p.m. Friday on U.S. 61 south in front of the Go Mart.

Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said the deputies were responding to a fire call when the driver of a car in front of them put on the car’s brakes, causing the first deputy to put on the brakes on his vehicle and the deputy following him to rear end his vehicle sending it into a guard rail.

Both SUVs were pulled into the Go Mart parking lot Friday evening as Natchez Police officers worked the scene and directed traffic around the accident scene.

No one was injured in the accident that is still under investigation.

Patten said the first car was not hit and the driver left the scene.

“It is not illegal to put on your brakes,” Patten said. “It is a very unfortunate incident for us. I am glad no one got hurt. It is just one of those things that happens. It just goes to show you it is dangerous for us going to a call. We have to proceed with caution even when going through town with lights and sirens.”
