NATCHEZ — The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 653 new cases of COVID-19 and 9 virus-related deaths in Mississippi on Wednesday.

Mississippi’s total of COVID-19 cases since March 11 now stands at 27,900 with 1,082 deaths.

MSDH reports 98 long-term care facilities such as nursing homes in the state now have active outbreaks where an outbreak is defined as one or more cases among residents or staff.

The number of Mississippians hospitalized with the disease continues to climb, MSDH data shows.

There were 579 COVID-19 patients in Mississippi hospitals as of 6 p.m. Tuesday, which is up from 560 patients on Monday.

MSDH reported 4 new virus cases in Adam’s County on Wednesday and no new deaths. Adams County has a total of 267 confirmed virus cases and 18 virus-related deaths reported since March 11. Of those cases, 44 were residents of long-term care facilities in Adams County and 10 residents of long-term care facilities died with the disease.
