Thursday update: Number of new COVID-19 cases takes double-digit jump in Adams County; state hospitalizations hit new record

The number of COVID-19 cases in Adams County increased by 13 cases Thursday, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health. The double-digit increase continues to indicate a significant rise in reported cases for Adams County in the last seven days.
Since June 26, the number of COVID-19 cases in Adams County has risen a total of 37 cases — from 243 to 280 cases reported Thursday.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported Thursday an additional 870 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours bringing the total cases to 28,770. The state estimates more than 19,000 of those cases have fully recovered.
But state statistics also showed a sharp rise in patients hospitalized with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases. More than 75 new patients were hospitalized, in the last 24 hours, the state reported.
In total 863 people were in Mississippi hospitals yesterday, the state reported. The previous record was set the day prior.
The state also reported 10 new deaths were attributed to the virus bringing the total death toll to 1,092.
Mississippi’s death toll from coronavirus includes 529 people from long-term care facilities or 48.4 percent of the total deaths.
Totals of all reported cases since March 11, including those in long-term care (LTC) facilities.
