NATCHEZ — Landon McGuire led Adams County Christian School with a game-high 32 points and Tyson Young added 16 points to lead four Rebels in double figures as they rolled to a 78-36 win over the Centreville Academy Tigers last Monday night.

Braxton Hunt poured in 10 points as did Adrian Walker, who was playing his first game of the 2023-2024 basketball season after football season ended. Walker recently played in the MAIS Football Futures Game, Rebels head basketball coach Matthew Freeman said.

“We came out and everybody was shooting the ball good. We made nine 3-pointers,” Freeman said. “Landon had a big game for us. That’s the second game in a row he’s scored over 30. Tyson was really big for us on the rebounds on offense and defense.”

And while Freeman added that the Rebels rely on McGuire and Young to do the majority of the scoring, he noted that it was good to see other players step and score in double figures themselves.

As for Walker’s presence in the scorebook, Freeman said, “Glad to see him back on the team.”

ACCS controlled the action and the pace of the game for much of the first three quarters. The Rebels dominated the first quarter en route to a 26-6 lead over Centreville Academy by quarter’s end.

The Tigers tried to keep up with the Rebels in the second quarter, but they were still outscored 20-12 to go into halftime down 48-18. Going out of halftime, it was more of the same as ACCS put up 24 points in the third quarter while holding Centreville to just seven points for a commanding 70-25 lead.

Centreville did manage to outscore ACCS 11-8 in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers had far too big of a deficit to climb out of. John Austin Sterling led the Tigers with 14 points.

ACCS (6-1) traveled to Woodville to take on Wilkinson County Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Centreville Academy girls 47, ACCS 40 (Mon. night)

NATCHEZ — D’Kiyah Davis led Adams County Christian School’s varsity girls’ team with a game-high 18 points, but it was not enough as the Lady Rebels fell to the Centreville Academy Lady Tigers 47-40 last Monday night.

After the first quarter ended in a 9-9 tie, Centreville Academy took control in the second quarter, outscoring ACCS 17-12 for a 26-21 halftime lead. A back-and-forth third quarter ensued and ended with the Lady Tigers outscoring the Lady Rebels 10-8 for a 36-29 advantage.

Unfortunately for the Lady Rebels, they could not get on a big run in the fourth quarter as both teams put up 11 points. Carley Beach and Paishense Rogers scored six points apiece for ACCS.

The Lady Tigers were led by Rylee Shell with 11 points and Jori Jefferson with nine points.

The Lady Rebels fell to 3-4 overall and next played at WCCA with tip-off at 6 p.m. Thursday.

In other basketball news related to ACCS, its junior varsity and varsity teams were scheduled to travel to Clinton, La. to take on Silliman Institute last Tuesday, but Freeman said those games were cancelled because too many players for Silliman had the flu.
