NATCHEZ — A fatal wreck took place in the early morning hours Saturday at approximately 3 a.m., Natchez Police Commander Jerry Ford said.

“(The driver) came across Brookfield Drive and hit an embankment on Morgantown Road across the street,” Ford said. At this time, the cause of the accident is unknown. “Our investigators did not smell any intoxicating beverage or anything,” he said.

The motorist, 48-year-old Royce Craig Lanehart from Natchez, died later at a hospital in Jackson.

There were no other vehicles or passengers involved, Ford said.
