NATCHEZ – Services for Daniel H. Tarver, 80, of Marion, MS (formerly of Natchez, MS) who died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023, in Meridian will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at Community Chapel Church in Natchez, MS with Rev. Bo Swilley officiating.

Burial will follow at Jersey Settler Cemetery in Kingston under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at Community Chapel Church.

Mr. Tarver was born June 26, 1943, in Natchez, MS the son of Roy Howard Tarver and Mary Louise McCaleb Tarver.

Mr. Tarver was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings, and his granddaughter, Alicia Hoover.

He had a heart for service and loved helping others. He loved his God, his family, and his friends. He was a skilled mechanic with a knack for solving the most challenging problems and a salesman who could sell ice cream cones in Alaska. He was an inventor constantly thinking outside the box. He invented a toy called a ‘Zoom Rocket’ and sold them all over the South. He always believed the best was yet to come and lived his life looking for what was just around the next corner.  In later years, he developed a card ministry, sending over 500 cards per year to individuals around the Country.  He was a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Descendent of The Jersey Settlers, President of the Bedford Residents Group, and self-appointed Captain of Bedford. Mr. Tarver was very involved in his community and church and was always faithful to the Lord. 

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice Magee Tarver of Bedford Care Center; his son, Paul H. Tarver and wife, Pamela Tarver of Marion, MS; grandson, Daniel Hoover of Elmira, NY; brothers-in-law, Harold Magee of Whynot, MS, and Tommie Magee and wife, Carolyn Magee of McCall Creek, MS; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ike Tarver, Don Tarver, Gary McIntosh, David Cobb, Mike Pace, and Greg Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Bedford Care Center in Marion, MS.
