VIDALIA, La. — Straight-line wind from a powerful thunderstorm that occurred overnight Monday and Tuesday took down the stage of Vidalia’s town amphitheater.

“We’ve got a mess to fix,” Mayor Buz Craft said Tuesday. “It destroyed the frame and cover.”

According to the National Weather Service on Monday, the storm threatened the region with flash floods and damaging 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts.

Craft said the town is working expediently to restore it to usable condition.

“We will get it back up as soon as we can,” he said. “We contacted insurance today and will hopefully hear back from them soon on an estimate.”
