NATCHEZ – Roger Dale McCranie passed away suddenly in Baton Rouge, LA on Jan. 7, 2024, from stroke complications, with his loving fiancée Pam by his bedside. He was 70 years young.

Roger was born on Jan. 24, 1953, in Natchez, MS to Leroy and Phyllis Jean McCranie. In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by his brothers, Charles and Vann; sister, Marilyn, and daughter, Maureen.

He is survived by his soulmate, Pam Matthews; daughters, Melanie (Jeff) and Morgan; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. There are several nieces and nephews and extended family as well as numerous friends that will dearly miss
Roger. He also leaves behind his beloved pets Muffin, Monster, Scooby, and Precious.

Roger was a hair stylist in Natchez for over 30 years. He enjoyed people, joking, and sharing stories with his clients. He also loved “conversating” on his cell phone with his many friends. During his earlier years, Roger was well known in his community as a talented singer, performing Elvis’s renditions in Memphis, TN, and throughout Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.

In later years, he was a homebody tending his garden and canning the fruits of his labor. Roger was a Christian who had recommitted his life to the Lord Jesus Christ. He looked forward to a family reunion with those loved ones who had gone home before him.

A heartfelt thank you to all of Roger’s family and friends for their support and prayers. Special thanks to Mary Beth Dawes for her care of his fur babies and to the critical care nursing staff at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, LA.

A funeral service officiated by Bro. Jerry Reed will be held at Laird Funeral Home Chapel in Natchez at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. prior to the service.

Interment will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Anthony McCranie, Zeke McCranie, Frankie Bailey, Freddie Gamberi, Dr. Geoff Flatmann, and Travis Leggett.

Honorary pallbearer will be Kenney Isabell.
