FERRIDAY – Funeral services for Virginia Washington, affectionately called “Red”, 79, of Ferriday, who departed this earthly life on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, in Hattiesburg will be held Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Word of Faith Ambassador Center in Ferriday with Bishop Justin Conner officiating.

Burial will follow in Ferriday Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, from 6 until 7:30 p.m. with a “Crowning Ceremony” at 6:15 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will follow on Saturday from noon until the time of the service at the church.

Virginia was born March 9, 1944, the 11th child of Walter and Beatrice Henderson. She married Ike Washington, Sr. in the summer of 1960 and to that union, seven children were born.

She is preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Jonathan, Ike, Jr., and Melvin Washington; two granddaughters, Jasmine Gordon, and KiAndra Oveal; two sisters, Ethel Martin and Thelma Webb; eight brothers, Walter, Ernest, Leon, Oliver, Jessie, Wilbert, Louis, and Cemuel Henderson.

“Red” leaves to cherish her memories: her lifelong husband of sixty-three years, Ike Washington, Sr.; three daughters, Sandra Faye Green, Donna Kay Washington, and Keaquanez Johnson; two sons, Michael Henderson and Donathan Washington; two sisters, Ernestine Harris and Elizabeth Calhoun; one brother, Leroy Henderson; two sisters-in-law, Roslyn Henderson, and Linda Henderson; 23 grandchildren; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
