NATCHEZ – Funeral services for Steve K. Nielsen, age 70, of Natchez, MS, who passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024, will be held at St. Mary’s Basilica. Visitation will be on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, from 9 until 11 am. Mass will follow visitation with Father Aaron Williams officiating. A repast will follow the 11 a.m. Mass at the Family Life Center. All are invited to attend. Burial will be Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, (his 71st birthday) at the Veterans National Cemetery at 9 am. All are invited to attend.

Steve was born in the Bronx, New York.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Eugene Nielsen, and Margaret Eileen Kearney Worthen.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan Lae Nielsen; daughter, Christine (Chrissy) Nielsen, and grandson, Cameron Jones, Jr. He is also survived by his brothers, Andy Worthen (Kristi), George Worthen (Tierney); sister, Linda Worthen, and sister-in-law, Tina Lae. Additional survivors include nephews, Troy Worthen, Eric Nichol, Sierra Dean, Alexis Worthen, Jesse Worthen (Joy), and great-niece, Abby. A special mention to Balah Muhammad, and Ahmair Shelby who looked upon Steve as a grandfather.

Steve loved cooking in his new kitchen and often kicked his wife out while he cooked. He enjoyed candy and always had a bowl handy. He was an avid Saints fan, a great secret keeper, loved his family, and ancestry. He had a great passion for helping and serving others and was always available if anyone needed him. His achievements in the Knights of Columbus include being a current Trustee, Past Liaison between the KC’s and St. Mary’s youth group, past Grand Knight, and past Faithful Navigator. He is also the Adjutant of the American Legion Post #4 in Natchez and on the VA task committee. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Our Lady of Holy Cross College.
