NATCHEZ — Natchez Fire Chief Robert Arrington said a vehicle that had been abandoned on U.S. 84 Tuesday evening between the Adams County Correctional Facility and Old Highway 1 caught fire and burned.

The fire was discovered at approximately 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The burning car had been on fire for a while when it was discovered by an Adams County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol.

“It burned for a while. It was fully engulfed when our firefighters arrived,” Arrington said. “What we know for sure is no one was in the vehicle. And we know it was an Alfa Romeo. We could not read the license plate, nothing. We don’t know who it belonged to or why it was abandoned.”

He said no cause of the fire was evident, and that it burned down to the frame of the vehicle.
