Imagine how much beauty the Vidalia Garden Club has added to the Miss-Lou in the last quarter century.
Last year along, the Vidalia Garden Club sold 16,000 caladium bulbs. And the club has been selling the bulbs as a fundraising project to pay for its many good works for at least the last quarter century. Club members have been selling the bulbs for so long, they aren’t sure exactly when they began.
The annual caladium bulb sale is under way right now. VGC is selling five varieties of the bulbs — Red Flash, Candidum, Carolyn Wharton, Aaron and White Queen. Each bulb sells for 85 cents.
Money from the bulb sales goes to pay for a variety of the club’s good deeds in the community, including the Vidalia Post Office Garden, the Blue Star Memorial in honor of our nation’s military, Arbor Day tree plantings surrounding the pond at the Dr. William T. Polk City Park, college scholarships, the city’s fountain garden near the Mississippi River Bridge, and the purchase and maintenance of the eight flags in front of the Old Parish Courthouse on Carter Street. The flags represent all those that have flown over the Town of Vidalia throughout its history.
The bulbs, which are annuals in our growing zone, can be ordered through March 8. They will arrive about two weeks later from the nursery in Florida where they are grown.
For more information, or to place an order, contact Angie Knapik at 318-278-3340.
In doing so, not only will you be brings life and a thing of beauty to your home and neighborhood, you will be supporting the good works of a fine Miss-Lou civic organization.
