NATCHEZ – We celebrate the life of Elfriede Seyfarth. She was born on May 20, 1926, in Dotzheim Germany

near Wiesbaden and passed away on Feb. 28, 2024.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 08, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joan Gandy officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. Friday, March 08, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church.

After the end of World War II, she met and married Calvin C. Seyfarth, who had stayed in Germany to work as a civilian for the US Army. After leaving Germany they moved to live in Calvin’s hometown of Natchez.

Elfriede was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Natchez where she was active in her woman’s circle and communion committee. She worked as a teacher’s aide at Braden Elementary School. She enjoyed the work there and especially liked that she would be back home when her sons were home from school.

She worked at Sears for 20 years. Part of the work she enjoyed was measuring and ordering carpets and custom draperies. After retiring from Sears, Elfriede volunteered many years as a Pink Lady at the Natchez Regional Hospital. She also enjoyed activities with friends such as Monday night cards, swimming at the Senior Center, and taking cruises and bus tours.

Elfriede was preceded in death by her father, August Schwalbach; mother, Sophie Schmidt Schwalbach; sister, Hilda Schwalbach Trollinger, and brother, Friedrich Schwalbach and her loving husband, Calvin C. Seyfarth.

She is survived by sons, Calvin Seyfarth Jr. (Linda Seyfarth) and Robert Seyfarth; granddaughters, Hilary Hoover (Steve Hoover) and Melody Tillman (Jason Tillman), and great-grandchildren, Chandler Bryant, Levi Hoover, Haley Tillman, and Katie Tillman.

Pallbearers will be Chandler Bryant, Steve Hoover, Jason Tillman, Everette Ratcliffe, Ken Price, and Rusty Jenkins.

The family wishes to sincerely thank her physicians and nurses who have cared for her over the years. We particularly want to thank her nurses and therapists from Deaconess and her sitters from Heart2Heart who have given loving care over the past four years. We would especially like to thank her friends, relatives, and church family for being there for her over the years.
