NATCHEZ – Private family graveside services for William Curtis King, 96, were held Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Burial immediately followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird
Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Mr. King was born Sept. 4, 1927, in Bogue Chitto, MS, the son of Purvis King and Lela Greer King Sproles.

He graduated from Wisner Public Schools and attended Copiah Lincoln Community College and the
University of South Alabama. Mr. King was a member of the Masonic Lodge Keystone 213 Sicily Island, Louisiana for more than 60 years.

Curtis King was a loving husband, engaged father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a passionate giving servant in his church and community. Curtis was a well-respected honest man who lived his life as an example and mentor for others to follow. 

Mr. King worked in construction and maintenance for 36 years for International Paper Company in Natchez, MS, Mobile, AL, and Georgetown, SC. Curtis served his country in the Merchant Marines.

In the more than 30 years after his retirement from International Paper Company, Curtis was heavily involved in the Good Sam’s Club with many roles. He and his wife, Valoree, were able to travel to all 50 states and some foreign countries.

Mr. King was preceded in death by his wife, Valoree Cooper King; and two brothers, James Lee King and Leslie Sproles, Jr.

Mr. King is survived by one son, James W. King, and wife, Sheila of Ferriday, LA; one daughter, Janice King Jones, and husband, James Ronald Jones of Nashville, TN; brother, Perry King; two sisters, Dorothy Jones and Shirley King; and a number of nieces and nephews, four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
