Vehicle strikes utility pole, causes power outage in area

NATCHEZ — About 40 customers in the vicinity of U.S. 61 and U.S. 84 are without power after a vehicle struck an electric pole near the intersection just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office reports someone driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer left the roadway and hit a utility pole holding a transformer, which was knocked to the ground.

Information about whether the driver or anyone else was injured was not immediately available.

Power lines crossed the road and traffic is stopped near the intersection. Traffic is completely blocked on U.S. 84, as is the northbound lane of U.S. 61. Law enforcement is working to re-route traffic at this time.

In addition, at about the same time, trees and power lines fell onto Morgantown Road in the vicinity of New Hope Baptist Church. Law enforcement and utility crews are working to clear Morgantown Road at this time.
