NATCHEZ — One lane is reopened to traffic at the U.S. 84 and U.S. 61 North intersection where another lane remains blocked after an accident occurred in the area just after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Both lanes of U.S. 84 were blocked for more than two hours Tuesday as power lines crossed the intersection. “We are asking people to stay clear and find an alternative route,” Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said after 7:30 p.m.

Mississippi Highway Patrol worked the accident.

All but the right lane of U.S. 61 North is cleared at the intersection, said MHP spokesman Craig James.

A Chevrolet Tahoe reportedly left the roadway and hit a utility pole holding a transformer, knocking it to the ground. James said no one was injured but the crash did a number on utility lines.

According to Entergy’s outage map, power loss in that area affects just under 280 customers with an estimated restoration time around 10 p.m.
