A trio of award-winning music educators with international backgrounds will present a free concert at 7 p.m., Friday, March 22, at Trinity Episcopal Church.

Sharing strong feelings about music, the ensemble is called the Trio Pasión, since “pasión” is Spanish for “passion.”

The musicians are Dr. Domi Oh, the pianist, born in South Korea; Dr. Everaldo Martinez, the violinist, born in Honduras and Dr. Natalia Vacarciuc, the cellist, born in Moldova in Eastern
Europe.

All now have careers as faculty members of major universities in the United States.

Dr. Oh teaches at the University of Texas at Dallas; Dr. Martinez at Alcorn State University, Lorman, Miss. and Dr. Vacarciuc at the University of Mary, Bismarck, N.D.

All three regularly perform with large and small ensembles, including orchestras.

The program at Trinity will include music by Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837); Gabriel Faure (1845-1924); Gwyneth Van Anden Walker (1947-); and Jose Bragato (1921-1992).

Dr. Byron Johnson, associate professor of music at Alcorn State University and Director of Music at Trinity Church, was instrumental in arranging the trio’s performance at Trinity.

“In an ongoing effort to keep Trinity Church’s pipe organ in top shape, there will be an opportunity for people to donate to the organ restoration fund,” Johnson said. “We are so very pleased to have these extremely gifted musicians share their talents with us,” he said.
