NATCHEZ — For the first time since COVID, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office will host its Health and Safety Fair on Friday at the Adams County Safe Room from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Safe Room is located at 323 Liberty Road, Natchez.

Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten took to Facebook Live on Thursday, reminding Adams Countians about the event and urging them to participate.

“We need you to show up and show out,” Patten said.

He said the event was intentionally scheduled during spring break for area schools so children can come and learn and participate.

“We will have health vendors doing blood pressure screenings, glucose screenings, cancer screening, vaccinations, mental health wellness checks, cholesterol screenings, car seat checks,” Patten said. “We will have insurance agents on hand explaining benefits, who is eligible, as well as how to prepare your home and yourself for potential disasters.”

The Sheriff’s Office has partnered with a number of agencies to put on Friday’s Health and Safety Fair, including Community Action Partners, Mississippi Tobacco Free Coalition, Riverbridge Specialty Hospital, Specialty Hospice, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Merit Health Natchez, Aetna Insurance, Adams County E-911 Dispatch and Adams County Emergency Management, the Natchez Fire Department, Adams County Fire Service, the City of Natchez Police Department, AMR Ambulance Service, Good Health Wins, Mississippi Shine Project, Trinity Medical Center, Black Mustard Seed and others.

Those who still want to participate or food vendors who would like to sell their products at the event can call Jackie Posey at the Adams County Sheriff’s Office at 601-807-6528.

“We want everyone to live long, healthy lives. Safety is a big part of what concerns this community. We will all be available to talk with citizens and help in any way we can,” Patten said.

Patten said giveaways would be featured around the clock during the event Friday.

“And you know how I love kids. I will be on hand during the entire event and would love to take photos with the kids who come out,” the sheriff said.
