NATCHEZ — With the threat of inclement weather looming over the Miss-Lou region last Friday, Adams County Christian School decided to move its home varsity doubleheader against MAIS District 4-5A opponent St. Aloysius High School to last Thursday afternoon.

St. Aloysius won the first game of the twin bill 7-3 thanks to the pitching of Bradley (no first name given), who threw six innings and allowed just two hits. The second game went to ACCS as the Rebels held on for a 9-6 win over the Flashes.

As for Game 1, Rebels head coach Jake Winston said Bradley was the difference in the outcome.

“Their starting pitcher is what got them Game 1. He threw well,” Winston said.

Tyson Young got the start in the first game was charged with the loss after giving up five runs, three of them earned, on four hits and three walks to go with five strikeouts.

Young also had a double for the Rebels, as did Levi Beesley. However, ACCS had no multiple hitters.

“They (St. Aloysius) only had four hits and three walks. We had four errors,” Winston said.

In Game 2, It was the duo of Colton Rabb and Sean Kerry Cothern that allowed the Rebels to pick up their first district win of the 2024 season.

Rabb got the start for ACCS and had a solid performance on the mound. He went four innings and gave up three runs on two hits, two walks, and one hit by a pitch and he struck out five batters.

Winston he felt like his team was more relaxed than it was the first two meeting with the Flashes and they played good defense when Rabb was on the mound.

“We got off to a great start with Rabb on the mound. He pounded the strike zone. He threw a lot of strikes. With Rabb on the mound, it’s a lot easier to play defense. Our defense was on our toes and played well behind him,” Winston said.

Cothern pitched two and one-third innings in relief and was the winning pitcher for ACCS after allowing no runs on one hit with one strikeout and just one walk. He also led the Rebels at the plate by going 2-for-4.

ACCS (2-10, 1-2) was scheduled to host District 4-5A and cross-town rival Cathedral High School on Monday with the junior varsity game at 5 p.m. and the varsity game at 7 p.m. That was, if the weather permitted. The forecast was for heavy rain and possible severe thunderstorms moving into Natchez late in the afternoon on Monday.

“That’s going to be a big issue. We’re going to play it by ear,” Winston said.

Then the same two teams are to play again on Wednesday with Cathedral hosting ACCS for a varsity doubleheader at Chester Willis Field at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
