VIDALIA — Vidalia High School’s varsity baseball team was scheduled to play host to Oak Grove High School in the Vikings’ LHSAA District 2-2A opener last Tuesday afternoon at the Concordia Recreation District 3 Complex.
That was until a severe thunderstorm ripped through the area with heavy rain and hail just a few hours earlier and forced the game to be postponed until a later date.
“LHSAA (Louisiana High School Athletics Association) requires a three-hour courtesy for any postponements and cancellations. Oak Grove is about two hours away from us,” Vikings head coach Seth Thompson said. “We had to call Oak Grove early to let them know. We had too much water on our field.”
The game between Oak Grove and Vidalia will now take place on Saturday, April 13 at 5 p.m.
Vidalia traveled to Rayville for a make-up district game against the Hornets on Wednesday at 5 p.m. after the game that was to have taken place on Tuesday, March 26 was postponed due to a tragic wreck in Rayville that involved some students at Rayville High School on the night of Sunday, March 24. This game ended up being the Vikings’ district opener.
Vidalia then played host to Beekman Charter School in what was officially the district opener on Thursday with the junior varsity game at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.
Another game has been added to the Vikings’ schedule. They will play host to Avoyelles High School in a non-district game at 1 p.m. Saturday.
