VIDALIA — After their game scheduled for last Tuesday against Oak Grove High School was postponed due to the inclement weather that hit the Miss-Lou area in the late morning and into the afternoon, the Vidalia High School Vikings finally returned to action with two games in LHSAA District 2-2A.

Last Wednesday afternoon, the Vidalia Vikings took care of the Rayville High School Hornets 18-0 in just three innings in what was Vidalia’s district opener.

Vidalia started off the game on fire with six runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. The Vikings added eight runs in the top of the second inning and four runs in the top of the third.

And while the Vikings only had six base hits in the game, they also took advantage of several miscues by Rayville, including six errors.

Unfortunately, Vidalia was not able to carry that momentum into their district match-up against a good Beekman Charter School team as the Tigers held on for a 3-2 win over the Vikings last Thursday afternoon at the Concordia Recreation District 3 Complex.

Beekman Charter (10-6, 3-0) scored all three of their runs in the top of the first inning. Then it was up to the Tigers’ pitching and defense to make sure that Vidalia would not mount a comeback after their own offense could not bring in any more runs over the final six innings.

The Vikings scored one run in the bottom of the first inning to make it a 3-1 game, but just like the Tigers, their bats went cold over the next several innings. And even when Vidalia scored one run in the bottom of the seventh, it would not be enough.

Both Beekman Charter and Vidalia had five total base hits and each team committed just one error.

Vidalia (7-8, 1-1) next played host to Avoyelles High School on Saturday at 1 p.m. Then the Vikings play at Marksville High School on Monday, April 8 with the junior varsity game at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.
