NATCHEZ — A fisherman discovered a truck in the water behind the Belwood Levee on the Mississippi River and called authorities, who confirmed it to be stolen from Adams County.

Investigators responded at approximately 1:40 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said.

Only the roof of the truck was visible in the water and investigators confirmed that it was a truck as it was pulled out with the assistance of Chops Wrecker Service. No one was inside the truck, Patten said.

The sheriff later said the truck, which is a 2016 Dodge Ram 1500, had been reported stolen on April 7.

“Investigators will continue to investigate this incident and look for a vin number to determine who the vehicle belongs to and how it ended up in the river. We would like to thank the caller, … Wildlife and Fisheries and Chops Wrecker Service for their assistance today,” Patten said.

Chops Wrecker Service provided the boat and everything needed to recover the vehicle, he said.
