NATCHEZ — Even though Adams County Christian School’s 2024 varsity baseball season ended in the first round of the 2024 MAIS Class 5A South State Playoffs, one member of the Rebels’ team will have one more game to play.

ACCS senior pitcher/infielder/outfielder Tyson Young was recently selected to play in the 2024 MAIS Class 4A/5A/6A All-Star Baseball Game, which will take place on Monday, May 20 in Jackson. 

As a pitcher, Young was the Rebels’ ace on the mound. He had a 2-2 record with a 3.68 earned run average. What was perhaps most amazing to head coach Jake Winston and even his teammates was that during the last three weeks of the season, Young pitched with a swollen middle finger.

“He was the guy we relied on in big moments. He tore ligaments in his pitching hand sliding into third base to open district play this year, but he didn’t let that sideline him for more than a week as he knew his team was depending on him,” Winston said. “He gave us all he had.”

In addition to playing pitcher, Young also played in centerfield, third base, second base, first base, and left field. And he was a rock defensively for a Rebels team that struggled in that area in 2024.

“Defensively, he was asked to play a multitude of positions. He showed a great range of athleticism and composure with a fielding percentage of .967 combining all positions,” Winston said. “Highest fielding percentage of any player I’ve coached.”

Winston said that Young was “a true class act” and that he will be missed by his coaches and teammates alike at ACCS.

“Tyson has been an absolute pleasure to coach for three years. One of my all-time favorite young men to put a uniform on for me and always up for the challenge no matter what we asked of him,” Winston said. “He’s a great ball player and an even better person. No doubt in my mind he will be successful in whatever he pursues in his life. He’s the type of student-athlete a coach wishes he could have every year.”

Winston then added, “We all wish him well in his future endeavors. This all-star honor is more than deserved.”
