NATCHEZ — Dozens of trees were toppled in Adams County overnight, leaving roadways blocked and downing power lines, causing electrical outages.

Southwest Mississippi Electric Cooperative reported approximately 1,140 residents without power at 9 a.m. in rural Adams County. Entergy Mississippi reported approximately 370 residents without power involving 12 separate outages in Natchez.

Power crews are out in force making certain power to downed lines has been cut before Adams County Road crews begin clearing trees from the roadway, said Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten.

“With all of this rain we’ve had, the soil is saturated. We will have more trees to fall because of that,” Patten said. “We ask motorists to please be cautious when on the roads.”

He also asked that Natchez residents be careful when approaching intersections where traffic signals have lost power and are not operating properly.
