NATCHEZ — Personnel at Merit Health Natchez early this morning notified Natchez Police they were treating a gunshot victim.

Commander Jerry Ford said when his officers arrived, they were able to speak with Jadarius Anderson, who had been shot twice — once in the stomach and once in the chest.

Anderson, 27, of 101 Thornhill Place Apartments, told police the wounds were self-inflicted.

Officers said he had arrived at his apartment and was getting out of the car with a Glock 26 9 mm semi-automatic firearm in his hand. He said he had his hand on the trigger and trigger guard and that he accidentally fired the gun.

“He said he had just made it home and was getting out of the car,” Ford said. The weapon fired three times, once going through a window and twice striking Anderson.

The incident is still under investigation, Ford said.

No information was available on Anderson’s condition today.
