CENTREVILLE — Cliff Hurst and Tyler Towles combined to score all five of Centreville Academy’s touchdowns as the Tigers roared past the Silliman Institute Wildcats 35-12 Friday night.

Hurst scored on three short touchdown runs in the first quarter, and Randy Bell converted on all three extra points to give Centreville a 21-0 lead. Towles’s only two carries of the game accounted for his two scores — first on a 57-yard run and then on a 43-yard run with both occurring in the second quarter.

The Tigers took a 35-0 lead into halftime and they were about a half of a quarter away from a shutout until Todd Kelly scored on a 3-yard run. Silliman then scored on a 10-yard pass with just 20 seconds to go in the ball game.

Centreville celebrated Senior Night by winning the MAIS District 6-AA championship outright. The third-ranked team in Class AA improved to 9-2 overall and finished district play with a 4-0 record. The Tigers host Lamar School, one of two wild card teams in South AA next Friday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the MAIS Class AA South State Playoffs.

Franklin County 28,

Jefferson County 3

FAYETTE — Chris Robinson had 11 carries for 96 yards and two touchdowns as the Franklin County Bulldogs wrapped up second place by itself in Region 7-3A with a decisive win on the road over the Jefferson County Tigers Friday night.

Calvin Barnes made a 32-yard field goal just seven seconds into the second quarter to give Jefferson County a 3-0 lead. That lead didn’t last long, however, as Franklin County’s Fred Coleman returned the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown with 11:37 to go in the second quarter. Then, the Bulldogs put the game away late in the first half when Robinson scored on a 1-yard run, and Jimmy Barnes ran in from 2 yards out for a 21-3 halftime lead. Robinson’s second touchdown of the game came on a 59-yard run with 4:22 to go in the third quarter.

Franklin County (8-3, 4-1) had 144 yards of total offense while the Tigers (3-8, 2-3) had just 49 yards of total offense. And while Franklin County will host a playoff game Friday in the first round of the Class 3A South State Playoffs as Region 7-3A’s No. 2 seed, Jefferson County will be on the road as the No. 4 seed.

Prentiss 28, Wilkinson County 26 (OT)

PRENTISS — Devin Voorhies accounted for 165 yards of total offense and had a hand in all four touchdowns for Wilkinson County. He also threw three costly interceptions against a bad Prentiss team.

That and the Wildcats’ defense’s inability to stop the Bulldogs’ running game proved to be huge in their stunning 28-26 loss in Region 7-3A action Friday night.

Voorhies ran for 63 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries and he had two touchdown passes on 9-of-15 passing for 102 yards. Unfortunately, one of those three picks was ran back 30 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.

In overtime, Voorhies scored on a 10-yard run, but the two-point conversion pass was no good. And that opened the door for Prentiss, which scored on a 6-yard run and its two-point conversion pass was good as the Bulldogs (2-9, 1-4) pulled off the upset.

Despite the loss, Wilkinson County (5-5, 2-3) will be the No. 3 seed out of Region 7-3A in the first round of the Class 3A South State Playoffs thanks to its win earlier this season over Jefferson County. But that also means the Wildcats will be on the road next Friday.

WCCA 40, CENLA Christian 22

PINEVILLE, La. — Tramel McKinsey ran for 255 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries as the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams defeated the CENLA Christian Academy Lions Friday night.

With the win, WCCA not only won the MAIS South Central A (District 3-A) championship, it also won 10 games in a regular season for just the second time in school history. The Rams improved to 10-1 overall.
