Alcorn loses heartbreaker to Grambling

LORMAN (AP) — Quincy Roberts scored 26 points and Grambling State held off Alcorn State to win 72-71 Monday night.

Alcorn State turned it over with 10 seconds left Brandon Dorsett made the second of his two free throws for the Tigers’ victory.

Xavier Rogers added 17 points for Grambling State (2-12, 2-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference).

Alcorn State (4-12, 1-3) turned it over 13 times, compared to nine by the Tigers. Xavian Rimmer had five turnovers for the Braves.

The Braves’ turnovers negated a good night shooting, as they made 56.9 percent (29 of 51). Alcorn State also outrebounded Grambling State 23-18.

Ken McDonald paced the Braves with 22 points, on 10-of-18 shooting. Twann Oakley added 14 points, Chris Brand chipped in 12 and Ian Francis had 10 for Alcorn State, which went to the free throw line 12 times (making 10 shots) compared to 30 for the Tigers (who made 21).
