NATCHEZ — Mayor Jake Middleton has tentatively scheduled a Natchez Board of Aldermen work session for today for the board to discuss the provisions of the recently proposed amendment to the city’s lease with Roth Hill casino developers.

Middleton said the work session will more than likely be at 6 p.m. in the conference room in City Hall.

The aldermen voted 6-0 last week to reject changes to the city’s current lease with the Roth Hill casino developers.

Middleton said at that meeting that attorney Scott Andress with Balch & Bingham in Jackson was present in case the board decided to hire him as outside counsel. Middleton said Andress was prepared to discuss the amendment with the city in executive session, however the aldermen did not vote to enter executive session and did not talk with the attorney.

Natchez Gaming Enterprises’ attorney Tommy Shepherd of Jones Walker in Jackson told the board after the vote he was concerned that he and his client had not been given the opportunity to discuss what the provisions of the lease amendment meant for the casino and the city.
