NATCHEZ — Adams County Christian School was scoring in bunches on the softball diamond Tuesday night.

The Lady Rebels used a six-run third inning to take a lead, a four-run outburst to blow the game open and a three-run sixth inning to beat Trinity Episcopal by the 10-run rule, 14-4.

“We hit the ball hard, and when you hit the ball hard, you will find some holes,” ACCS head coach Forrest Foster said.

Foster said he was glad the Lady Rebels were able to gain some separation in what started out as a competitive game.

“It was kind of scary tonight at first,” he said. “Trinity kept fighting and worked hard the whole ball game. As a coach, I was proud of the way Trinity played tonight.”

Trinity head coach Chris Hutchins agreed that his team fought hard, but he said big innings continue to be the Lady Saints’ downfall.

“That has kind of been our theme throughout the year,” Hutchins said. “We can’t find ways to play a complete game, but we are getting closer. The effort from the girls is without question. I thought we played our most complete game tonight, but AC is a great team that is well coached, and they took advantage.”

ACCS collected 12 hits, including five doubles, in the game. Trinity also helped the Lady Rebels’ cause by committing five errors and allowing six walks.

ACCS was first on the board with one run in the bottom of the second inning. Anna McDaniel reached on a two-out double, and Jordan Petty doubled McDaniel home.

Trinity answered in the top of the third when Marty Lewis walked to lead off the inning and later scored on an RBI-single by Tali Beard.

Braxtyn Elveston’s double and a two-RBI single by McDaniel highlighted the Lady Rebels’ big third inning. Abby Givens also singled in the inning, and ACCS drew four walks. The six-run outburst gave ACCS a 7-1 lead.

Trinity inched closer in the top of the fourth with two runs on two hits and two walks.

Carly Trisler walked to lead off the inning, Hannah Fitt followed with a single, and Kailey Hutchins brought them home with a two-RBI base hit to make the score 7-3.

The Lady Rebels stretched the lead to 11-3 in the bottom of the fourth.

Givens’ two-RBI double scored the first two runs of the inning. She then came around to score on an RBI-groundout by McDaniel. Taylor Perkins later walked and came around to score on a double by Nikki Worthey.

Trinity added one run in the top of the sixth when Lewis singled to score Bailey Porter.

The Lady Rebels then scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth with hits from Perkins, Worthey and Jessica Reynolds. Reynolds ended the game with a two-RBI single.

Perkins was the winning pitcher for the Lady Rebels. She pitched all six innings and struck out three batters. Hutchins took the loss for Trinity.

Elveston, Givens, McDaniel and Worthey each had two hits for ACCS. Tali Beard led Trinity at the plate, going 3-for-4.

The win was ACCS’s second in MAIS District 5-AA, and Foster said it is nice to be 2-0 in district.

“It’s big,” he said. “It keeps the momentum going in the district.”

Trinity (1-5, 0-2) will host Tensas Academy at 6:30 p.m. Monday. ACCS will take the field again at 6 p.m. Thursday when it hosts River Oaks.
