It’s a bird; it’s a plane; it’s a door?

NATCHEZ — Sometimes, it rains cats and dogs. Occasionally, it’s raining men. But Thursday, in Adams County, it was raining doors.

According the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 1:15 p.m. a gear door from a Mississippi Air National Guard C-17 aircraft tore off at 26,000 feet somewhere over Adams County.

The C-17 from which the door came dislodged is assigned to the National Guard’s 172nd Airlift Wing in Jackson.

The coordinates of where the door came off the plane would have it falling somewhere between Springfield and Kingston roads, though because of winds at that altitude, the door could have traveled further to the east.

The door, a composite of carbon fiber with metallic fittings, is approximately 17 inches wide and 26 inches wide. It’s two inches thick and weighs approximately 10 pounds.

The ACSO requests that if anyone finds the door they report it at 601-442-2752.
