NATCHEZ — Police have charged a 16-year-old boy in connection with the burglary of an Auburn Avenue house last week.

Natchez Detective Jerry Ford said the boy, who is being charged as a juvenile, reportedly confessed to the burglary after being tracked down by police.

Natchez Police Chief Danny White said NPD received a call that at approximately 11:45 p.m. Thursday, a woman in the 130 block of Auburn Avenue awoke after hearing a strange noise in her house.

The noise was an unknown person inside the house, White said.

After running to get her children, the victim locked herself in a room and used her Kindle tablet device to send a friend a message on Facebook to call the police, White said.

The boy, Ford said, had been using a cell phone he stole from the homeowner, and police were able to find a person he called who then identified the boy.

Police also recovered from the boy an iPod belonging to the homeowner, Ford said.
