NATCHEZ — Miss-Lou residents approached today’s New Year and fresh start with a few goals, some simple and others more complex.

Vidalia resident Lynn Rowland is spending time with her grandchildren. Their mother is an Alabama fan, and Rowland hopes to make “LSU cheerleaders” out of her granddaughters during Monday night’s Chick-fil-A bowl game.

“We’re staying home and watching whoever LSU is playing,” Rowland said.

Vidalia resident Donna Carraway also is spending time her children and grandchildren, and spending more time with them in 2013 is her resolution.

“I’m just looking for more time with my family and more time with my church and my church family,” Carraway said. “Family is all you have and next to your family is your church family.”

Natchez resident Michael Cleveland is looking forward to graduating from Natchez High School in 2013.

As for his New Year’s plans, he’s relaxing.

“I plan on resting and bringing in the New Year sleeping,” Cleveland said.

Quintina Hawkins said she hopes to get better grades and get an A in her biology class at Natchez High School.

Hawkins planned to attend a watch night service at her church Monday night and spending time with her family today.

“We’re going to eat some black-eyed peas and cornbread,” Hawkins said. “I can’t wait.”

Hawkins’ older sister Jessica Green said she can’t wait to hang out with her little sister.

She plans on spending time with her children and her boyfriend.

Green hopes to make a life change in the New Year.

“I want to change my ways,” Green said. “I want to change my attitude.”

Vidalia resident Ashley Prunty is ready for hunting season next year.

“My resolution is killing everything,” Prunty said. “I wish my boys would kill a big buck.”
