Natchez Downtown Development Associaiton’s spring-theme, March 9, Second Saturday, includes exciting events for both adults and children!

Art on the Bluff, a monthly 2nd Saturday event that takes place March through October, and hosts both local and regional artists and craftspeople, will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Natchez bluff in the gazebo area.

More than 15 artists and craftspeople will be offering paintings, mobiles, pottery, jewelry and handmade crafts of all sorts. This is a wonderful opportunity for Natchez residents and visitors to find unique items while supporting our Mississippi artists and listening to live music. Water and soft drinks will be available for purchase from Natchez Downtown Development.

From 1 to 4 p.m. free easels and watercolor paints will be available for budding artists of any age to try their hand at painting our magnificent and unique Mississippi River bluff view!

At 11 a.m. we are hosting an Easter egg hunt on the bluff for children age nine and under.

Separate sections will be created for toddlers, small children and older children so everyone will be safe to enjoy hunting for the hundreds of colored eggs hidden around the gazebo area. It’s free. All that is required is an Easter basket!

From 6 to 8 p.m. downtown galleries and shops from Main Street to Franklin, and streets between, will be open with special events and refreshments.

There are treasures to discover among the unique offerings of our many, interesting, downtown shops. One of Natchez’s favorite duos, Chris Cavette and Mike Thomas, will be performing on Main Street.

Take a spring stroll, shop, listen to music and dine at any of our excellent downtown restaurants.

Natchez Downtown Development Association is the only Natchez organization focusing exclusively on our historic downtown — its shops, galleries, restaurants, trees and gardens.

We are mostly self-supporting, relying on memberships and special events for funding.

Our membership and board is made up only of volunteers.

We believe that our downtown area must continue to be an “alive,” thriving entity and that the survival of Natchez as a city depends not only on our history and antebellum homes, but also on the success of our merchants and restaurants. If you would like to join our organization and/or be of service in one or more of our Second Saturday or other activities, please e-mail me at marbeth1@aol.com or call 601-304-9684

Please enjoy and support Natchez Downtown. It’s worth it!

Marbeth Schon is chairman of the Second Saturday Committee of the Natchez Downtown Development Association.
