NATCHEZ — Brookhaven Academy didn’t have much to play for Friday night against Adams County Christian School after having already won the MAIS District 5-AA championship.

The one exception — going undefeated in district play. And that’s what the Cougars did as they held on to defeat the Rebels 7-5 after jumping out to an early 6-0 lead. Brookhaven Academy scored two runs in the top of the first inning and four in the top of the second.

ACCS got back in the game with four runs in the bottom of the second, but the Rebels didn’t score again until the bottom of the seventh. And by that time, they were trailing 7-4. Luke Thomas was charged with the loss and Brandon Ross went 2-for-3 at the plate.

ACCS finished its season with a 7-11 overall record and 1-5 in district play.

Monterey 2, Avoyelles Charter 1

MONTEREY — Hunter Frey pitched into the seventh inning and gave up two hits and struck out eight batters as the Monterey Wolves held on to defeat the Avoyelles Charter Vikings Friday afternoon to remain undefeated in LHSAA District 4-B.

Monterey scored one run in the bottom of the first inning and one run in the bottom of the fifth that gave the Wolves a 2-0 lead. Ashton Holland had a double for the Wolves.

Monterey (16-4, 6-0) plays at 4 p.m. Tuesday at home against Rapides on senior day.

Parklane Academy 4, Centreville Academy 3

CENTREVILLE — Despite the effort of relief pitcher Randy Bell to keep his team in the game, the Centreville Academy Tigers’ attempted late rally fell a little bit short as they lost to the Parklane Academy Pioneers Friday afternoon.

After starting and losing pitcher Corey Gaulden gave up four runs on six hits and one walk in three innings, Bell came in and shut the door on the Pioneers in his four innings of work. Bell struck out seven and gave up just one hit.

The Tigers trailed the Pioneers 4-1 after three innings of play before plating two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning that made it a 4-3 game and chased Parklane starting pitcher Allen Lampton after five and two-innings. He still ended up the winning pitcher after allowing three runs on six hits, one walk and one hitter batter with five strikeouts.

Centreville Academy (14-5), the runner-up in District 6-AA, hosts District 4-AA champion Simpson Academy at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for Game 1 of an MAIS Class AA South State first-round series.
