FERRIDAY — An 8-year-old Jonesville boy died Saturday after an all-terrain vehicle on which he was riding in Ferriday overturned.

Cam Fairbanks of Jonesville, was riding the ATV with his brother and an 11-year old girl around the area of Dunbarton Road in Ferriday, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy David Hedrick said.

As the children were making a turn, Hedrick said the vehicle struck a piece of metal irrigation pipe, causing the ATV to overturn on the right side.

“They couldn’t see the piece of metal because the grass was so high,” Hedrick said. “The wreck threw two of them out, and one of them got pinned underneath the vehicle.”

Hedrick said Fairbanks’ father, Clay, had been watching the children ride and immediately ran to the scene to remove the vehicle and attempt to resuscitate his son.

“This is one of the most horrifying things a parent has to go through,” Hedrick said. “We offer our condolences to the family as they deal with the results of this tragic accident.”
