Come celebrate summer season with NGC

Published 12:02 am Sunday, June 9, 2013

The heat has arrived, and, thankfully, so have the long summer months of vacations and time away with family and friends. With this being our last meeting until September rolls around, the Ladies of the Natchez Garden Club would like to invite everyone to come out and celebrate this budding season upon us.

At 11 a.m. Thursday at Ellicott Hall on the corner of Canal and Jefferson streets, we will be hosting our monthly meeting. This get-together will feature our hard working junior gardeners and their fearless leader. They will present to us and our guests what they have been up to all year and maybe even show us a thing or two when it comes to gardening and helping our own plants beat the summer heat.

Afterward, we will have our installation of new officers for the coming year. Of course, lunch will wrap up our meeting as it always does. This month, however, we will have a pot luck lunch featuring your favorite dishes and salads. Maybe we can even swap a recipe or two before running away to enjoy this beautiful summer weather.

Be sure to bring canned fruit to donate to the Natchez Stew Pot and personal hygiene items for the Guardian Shelter. With summer approaching, it is a good idea to give to these two groups to insure they have a pleasant and giving season.

Since you are in charge of lunch this month, there will not be a charge for attending this meeting. Also, you will not need to make a reservation. All we need is to see your shining — and hopefully tanned — faces with your favorite dishes, salads or deserts in hand.

We look forward to seeing each of you before the summer gets in to full swing and everyone heads off on vacations and fabulous sun-filled get-aways.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Natchez Garden Club office at 601-443-9065, or by e-mail at ntzgardenclub@bellsouth.net. Be sure to head over to our website throughout the summer for updates on upcoming events for the fall and winter months. You can also like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and re-pin any gardening ideas you see us pinning on Pinterest while you are out for the summer.

See you Thursday!
