ALEXANDRIA, La. — The sentencing for a Vidalia man who pleaded guilty to child pornography charges has been delayed because a key witness could not be present at the hearing.

John Casey Young, 46, pleaded guilty in March to knowingly receiving child pornography. He was scheduled to be sentenced June 10, and faces 20 years in federal prison, five years supervised probation and a $250,000 fine.

The sentencing was rescheduled for Aug. 19, however, to allow both defense and prosecutors to make additional legal filings, according to court documents.

The defense also discovered that one of the key witnesses — Marcus Lawson — for the sentencing hearing would not be able to be present at the June 10 hearing.

“Mr. Lawson’s testimony will be critical to the defense on several significant issues at Mr. Young’s sentencing,” the documents stated.

A news release from the U.S. Justice Department at the time of Young’s pleading said investigators with the Federal Bureau of Investigation found Young had used a work computer to search the Internet for child pornography during an unrelated investigation.

Young was arrested and later indicted on charges of production or attempted production of child pornography in Sept. 2011, charges to which he pleaded “not guilty.”

Court documents from the time alleged Young’s wife discovered video images depicting an undressed minor getting out of the shower on his computer.

The court filings from September allege that the video appears to have been recorded without the knowledge of the minor.
