SUMMIT — A pair of seniors, running back Lakedric Lee and quarterback Austin Smith, had big games for North Pike as the Jaguars avenged last year’s embarrassing 40-0 season-opening loss to Franklin County with a 34-20 win over the Bulldogs Friday night.

Lee had 11 carries for 179 yards and two touchdowns to go with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Smith that gave North Pike a commanding 21-0 lead with 3:09 to go in the second quarter. Lee had a 57-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter and a 19-yard touchdown run with 8:00 to go in the game that ended any thoughts of a Bulldogs’ comeback.

Smith didn’t necessarily light up Franklin County’s defense, completing just 7 of 15 passes, but he ended up with 197 passing yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. His first touchdown pass of the game went for 50 yards to Jalen Jackson at the 8:35 mark of the second quarter. Javian Jackson was the Jaguars’ leading receiver with 104 yards on just three catches.

Franklin County managed to get on the scoreboard with just 29 seconds to go until halftime when Chris O’Quinn recovered a fumble in the end zone.

Colton Magee picked off a Chris Robinson pass and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown with 2:14 remaining in the third quarter to give North Pike a 28-7 lead.

Malik Moore scored on a 4-yard run early in the second quarter, but Lee’s second touchdown run of the game took the air right out of the Bulldogs. Robinson threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Demarrius Tyler with 2:26 to go, but it was not enough.

Robinson had 24 carries for 117 yards, but was just 3-for-5 passing for 49 yards. Tyler had three catches for 45 yards.

De’Anthony King led the Bulldogs in tackles with 12. Jerry Hannon had five tackles, one assist and one sack.

Franklin County (0-2) has a home game at 7 p.m. next Friday against McComb.
