Weekend Ticket: Events on tap for Miss-Lou weekend

NATCHEZ — A variety of events are on tap this weekend in the Miss-Lou from a Saturday shopping trip to a motorcycle poker run.

Showers and thunderstorms are forecasted for the majority of Friday, but sunny skies should brighten up the rest of the weekend.

The third annual Natchez Poker Run sponsored by the Krewe of Fat Mama’s will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Proceeds from the poker run this year will benefit Adams County Search and Rescue, which is a non-profit service organization dedicated to providing assistance to the citizens of Adams County.

The Krewe of Fat Mama’s Tamales is sponsoring the third annual Natchez poker run Saturday to raise funds for Adams County Search and Rescue.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. at Fat Mama’s Tamales. The cost is $25 for each motorcycle, $15 per rider and $15 for each additional hand.

Participants will get their first card at Fat Mama’s Tamales before heading to their second stop at Chances Saloon in Jonesville. From there, the poker run goes to The Grand Hotel, Steel Horse Saloon, John’s Place, Under-the-Hill Saloon and will finish back at Fat Mama’s Tamales.

A $300 prize will be given for the best poker hand. Second place is $200, and third place is $100.

NGC fashion show

The Natchez Garden Club will host its annual fashion show at 11:30 a.m. today to showcase the newest fall and winter styles.

The show will take place after the club’s business meeting in the reception room at First Baptist Church in Natchez on D’Evereux Drive.

Friday Forum

This week’s speakers include Sen. Melanie Sojourner and Natchez Inc. Executive Director Chandler Russ. The topic is the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale.

The weekly forum begins at 8 a.m. at Natchez Coffee Company.

Men’s culinary event

The First Presbyterian Church’s annual men’s culinary cook-off to benefit the church’s local and international mission work will be from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Friday at 91 Providence Road, the home of Sherry and Lee Jones.

Plates are $15 per person with take-out plates available.

Beverages will also be sold, and valet parking will be provided.

Weekend football

Natchez High School will host Warren Central, and Trinity Episcopal Day School will host Porter’s Chapel.

Both games begin at 7 p.m.

Alcorn State University will host Mississippi Valley State at 2 p.m.

Second Saturday

Shopping, art events, music and refreshments will greet visitors and locals alike downtown Saturday.

The monthly Second Saturday event features a number of shops and galleries that will be open all day with extended hours.
