NATCHEZ – Services for Ernest “Jim” Harris, 78, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2007, in Natchez, will be at noon Sunday at Daughters of Zion Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Harris was born Aug. 10, 1929, in Adams County, the son of Richard Harris and Gracie Strickland Harris. He was the youngest son of nine children. He received his early education from Cloverhill School. For over 50 years, he was self-employed as a general contractor through out the Miss-Lou area building homes and churches. He was a dedicated, hard worker until the end and finally he laid down his hammer for the last time.

He was preceded in death by parents; six brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include his daughters, April J. Harris-Surles of Plano, Texas and Monica Harris of Dallas; granddaughter, Regan Simone Surles of Plano, Texas; grandson, Sidney Clinton Harris of Dallas; brother, Dorsey Harris of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
